QUALIFYING REPORT

Tarran Mackenzie and the McAMS Yamaha team will start second on the grid for tomorrow’s opening Bennetts British Superbike race at Snetterton after an impressive showing in qualifying.

23-year-old Mackenzie narrowly missed out on pole position in the red flag-interrupted session, posting a time of 1’47.432 to secure his first qualifying front row since the opening round at Silverstone.

Mackenzie has been consistently quick throughout the weekend, second quickest on Friday he maintained the pace to sit second at the end of FP3 before again following it up in qualifying.

It was a challenging day on the other side of the garage as Jason O’Halloran’s squad took a wrong turn in FP3. Still not happy with the bike, O’Halloran ran on at Agostini’s in Q1, tipping off on the grass. Getting back out for a single lap at the end, Agostini’s would again see the Aussie topple off his YZF-R1. Unable to progress from Q1, he’ll start the opening race from 21st on the grid.

Matt Truelove enjoyed a strong day, further improving his pace to qualify 23rdwith his quickest lap of the weekend.

Sunday’s races get underway at 13:30 and 16:30 respectively.

Tarran Mackenzie
Pos: 2nd     Time: 1’47.432
“We made a good step from FP3 to qualifying, it was only a small change but it gave me the little bit of confidence I was looking for. I set some quite good lap times, the track was probably a little bit green from the rain earlier in the afternoon. I probably didn’t get the best out of the tyre in Q3 as the red flag came out on my fastest lap but I felt good in the re-run. I feel I have OK pace, Scott [Redding] is looking strong but I am hopeful of going with him tomorrow as I’m not too far away. I’m feeling good on the bike so hopefully it’s dry and we can have a solid day.”

Jason O’Halloran
Pos: 21st    Time: 1’49.971
“That was the toughest day so far this year. We had a few problems again and in three laps I had two crashes at the same corner. It’s not ideal. We need to get together tonight and make a plan for tomorrow to make it better. We’ve had an issue and we’re trying to resolve it but what we’re doing at the minute isn’t working so we need to put our heads together and see what we can come up with. The aim for tomorrow is to keep it on two wheels and score some points.”

Matt Truelove
Pos: 23rd      Time: 1’50.522
“I’m really happy as we’ve taken a big step forward and I’m feeling great on the bike. I mucked up my quickest lap on the final chicane, which was annoying as I think I could have done a 1’49 and been a bit further forward on the grid. I’m feeling really confident for tomorrow’s two races, the plan will be to keep my nose clean at the start and go from there.”

Steve Rodgers
Team Owner
“Taz continues to show what a class act he is, he’s been second throughout the weekend and has been closing the gap to Redding out front. His pace is looking really strong and we are confident if we can run with Scott in the early stages then we can challenge for the win tomorrow, but either way two solid podium places would be a great result for the championship. Things clearly aren’t working for Jason at the minute, but we know that both he and the bike are capable of running at the front so we’ll put our heads together tonight and come up with a plan to get him back up there. A bit of luck for the kid wouldn’t hurt!”
