Things have been flat out at the McAMS Yamaha workshop as the squad prepare for the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike season.
Having taken delivery of the new 2020 YZF-R1 back in October, the team have been working through the winter to develop the machine into a BSB-spec weapon in conjunction with Yamaha Motor Racing in Italy and a number of key technical partners.
One such partner is Evotech Performance, who have worked with the team since it made its BSB debut in 2017. Throughout this time, Evotech have provided invaluable support, providing parts such as radiator and oil cooler guards, brake protectors, Taz’s scooter-style rear brake protector, battery and ECU mounts along with many other McAMS Yamaha-specific brackets.
This year, Evotech have already gone above and beyond in helping the team’s pre-season development. They recently invited McAMS Yamaha Chief Technician, Chris Anderson to their Lincolnshire workshop to make use of their hi-tech scanning technology to assess the team’s R1 chassis’ following a factory modification.
“We have been working on the Yamaha since 2015 and are proud to be working with the team at McAMS,” explains Evotech’s Dan Rack.
“We currently supply various Evotech Performance component parts to the team. All our parts are race specification and truly bespoke – it takes many hours of scanning the donor machine’s chassis before our design and fabrication engineers are confident that the parts will work in harmony with the bike and rider.
“Where we can, we also try to help the team save time in pre-season development. For example, we recently used our hi-tech scanning equipment to scan and overlay three different R1 chassis’ so we could compare where they might be misaligned – think of this as chassis blueprinting, in the same way engine builders ensure every component is within tolerance.
“In just a couple of hours, we were able to give Chris comparative information on the positioning of the engine mounts and headstock – a process that would have taken the team a week and quite a bit of head scratching!”
Chris Anderson added: “The guys at Evotech Performance have provided McAMS Yamaha with invaluable support over the last few years. Not only are their component parts the best in the business, their efforts in scanning our modified chassis’ saved what would have been at least a week’s work, which is valuable time at this time of year. They are always coming up with ideas of things to try and nothing is ever too much. Their attention to detail and quality is second to none and I can’t recommend them enough.”
