O'Halloran second on opening day at Brands Hatch

Jason O’Halloran was on the pace for McAMS Yamaha on the opening day of the final round of the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, setting the second quickest time around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.

The day’s practice times were all taken from FP1, with a rain shower before FP2 leaving sketchy conditions for the second session meaning many riders did not head out, including O’Halloran.

The Aussie was looking quick throughout the session, near the top of the times for most of the 45 minutes before setting the second quickest time towards the end with a 1’24.899 which saw him 0.4 seconds off pacesetter Bradley Ray.

The strong start sees him progress directly through to tomorrow’s Qualifying 2 ahead of the first race of the weekend.

Tim Neave had a strong start on the Edwards 1902 R1 in the National Superstock class, eighth overall after two practice sessions, 0.9 seconds from the top.

“Today has been good, I felt really good on the bike in the opening session and the lap time came pretty easily. There are a few small areas we can improve tomorrow but generally I think we are in a good position and ready for Qualifying and the first race. It was a shame to lose FP2, as it’s always nice to get the laps in but given how we felt in FP1, it just didn’t make sense to go out and risk it in the sketchy conditions. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”

“I’m happy with today, I’d like to be further up the timesheets but I’m feeling good on the bike and we can definitely see where the areas for improvement are. There’s more to come, so we’ll look at building on that in Qualifying tomorrow and fingers crossed we can end the season with a strong result.”

Steve Rodgers

Team Principal

“We have been lucky with the weather really as we got one full dry session, it wasn’t quite wet for the second session but there’s no point in taking risks when Jason is feeling good on the bike. We know our way around here! I’m glad to see him up on the timesheets, we thought he would be but he obviously took quite a knock at Donington but the good thing is he seems to be physically OK, so we’re confident of a strong qualifying and opening race tomorrow.”
