Sixth for O’Halloran in Brands Hatch Opener

Jason O’Halloran fought through from the fourth row of the grid to secure sixth place in the opening Bennetts British Superbike Championship race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.

The Australian came into the opening race of the weekend with a challenge ahead of him, after a sudden rain shower earlier in the day interrupted the qualifying session which left the seven-time winner this season eighth on the timesheets, although would start the race from 11th following a grid penalty.

A strong start saw the Aussie up inside the top eight in the opening stage and crossed the line in ninth place behind Danny Buchan. The #22 rider wasted no time in moving forwards, working his way passed Danny Kent and Yamaha counterpart Kyle Ryde to secure sixth by the midway stage.

With the gap to Tommy Bridewell ahead too large, O’Halloran focused on consolidating his position and gathering valuable data for Sunday’s two longer races, ultimately finishing the 16-lap sprint race sixth. He will start tomorrow’s first of two races in seventh.

Tim Neave enjoyed a strong qualifying in the Superstock class. The Edwards 1902 Yamaha rider will start Sunday’s 14-lap race from the head of the second row in fourth.

The McAMS Yamaha Team would like to congratulate Bradley Ray and the whole OMG Racing UK team on their title success after an incredible season.

The Team will return to action with the final two races of the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, while the Superstock race gets underway at 14:30.

“It’s been a reasonable day. The feeling wasn’t too bad at the end of today’s race, and we’ve gathered some data to try and improve the early part of the two races tomorrow. We just need to find a little bit more grip and we’ll hopefully be in amongst it to end the year strong.”

“I’m really happy with fourth on the grid for tomorrow’s final race of the year. The R1 feels great here and I think we are in a good position to push for a strong result.”

Steve Rodgers

Team Principal

“Starting 11th was always going to be difficult and unfortunately Jason didn’t quite have the feeling in the opening laps. We’ve had such little practice time it’s hard to perfect the setup. The race pace at the end was strong so we’ll do some work tonight and see if we can improve tomorrow. Congratulations to Brad and OMG, they’ve been a tough competitor this year but we’ve enjoyed fighting with them and are genuinely thrilled for them and happy the title remains in the Yamaha family.”
