Home Round Ahead for McAMS Yamaha at Oulton Park

The McAMS Yamaha team is targeting a return to the podium as the 2023 Bennetts British Superbike Championship visits their home circuit of Oulton Park for the second round of the season.

After a solid opening round at Silverstone earlier this month despite a lack of dry testing, the team headed to Oulton Park for the official two-day test. Unfortunately, as has been the theme in 2023, weather cut this short but they were able to get some track time on the final day which proved useful as they continue to refine the 2023 package.

In fact, despite a crash in the second session, O’Halloran was feeling comfortable on his R1 and set the fastest time of the test, boosting confidence ahead of Oulton Park, where the Australian has five race victories to his name.

For series rookie Tim Neave the weekend will be about further getting to grip with the R1 superbike, this time at one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar. The test means Neave knows what to expect coming into the weekend and his aim remains the same, to improve in each session and get closer to the front every time he rides the bike.

Practice gets underway on Saturday ahead of Qualifying and the Bike Social Sprint Race on Sunday with the main two races taking place on Bank Holiday Monday.

“We had quite a productive test at Oulton Park the other week despite the weather limiting our track time. We were able to make some progress with the bike and I felt very comfortable. We’ve had some really good results at Oulton in the past, so the aim, as always, is to be on the podium scoring as many points as possible as every point counts this year, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to do that this weekend. It looks like the weather will be on our side so I’m really looking forward to getting out on track on Saturday.”

“I’m looking forward to getting to Oulton Park for Round 2. I was really happy with the progress we made over the Silverstone weekend, our goal was to improve every time I got on the bike and the improvement from the first race to the last race was really good as I learned the bike and began to get more comfortable. Oulton is quite a different track to Silverstone, but fortunately we were able to get some dry laps there in the test last week so I know what to expect this weekend. I had quite a big off in the final session of the test, but after a couple of weeks’ rest I’m feeling 100% fit and ready to go. The aim will still be to improve each time we get on the bike and continue learning!”

“We managed to get quite a lot of work done at the Oulton Park test despite losing a day to rain, so we are feeling confident ahead of this weekend’s races. We know Jason can be strong at Oulton, as he can everywhere these days, so with what we learned at the test we are confident we can hit the ground running with the 2023 package. For Tim, it has to be about continuous improvement – Oulton Park is a very different kettle of fish to Silverstone, but he saw that at the test so now he needs to continue making improvements each time he gets on the bike as he learns his way around the superbike.”
